Purpose
The volunteers primary purpose is to provide assistance to patients, to the professional staff and to visitors of St. Clare Medical Center. Volunteers represent the hospital and should conduct themselves in a courteous, friendly manner at all times. Volunteers are expected to be dependable and conscientious, and to exercise a high level of integrity and confidentiality both on and off the job.
Qualifications
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, in reasonably good physical condition with correctable vision and hearing, and be able to communicate with accuracy. There are no educational, experience or prior training requirements; however, the following items must be complete to be eligible for volunteer service:
- Auxiliary Application
- General Orientation
- Tuberculosis skin test
- Auxiliary Orientation
- Auxiliary Membership, including $1 annual dues. (Not applicable for student volunteers.)
- Service Area Training
- Mandatory Annual Inservices
Shifts
Volunteers typically work one four-hour shift each week. Three shifts are available seven days per week. Although some areas have varying shifts, normally shifts are 8 a.m. to Noon, Noon to 4 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. If a volunteer is unable to work a scheduled shift, it is his or her responsibility to find a substitute from the substitute list.
Appearance
Volunteers must wear a uniform while volunteering at the hospital. Men wear red jackets and women wear pink smocks, both are provided by the hospital. It is important that volunteers have a clean uniform, comfortable shoes, neat hair, clean and manicured fingernails and practice good personal hygiene.
Conduct
Volunteers are representatives of the hospital and are expected to maintain the same code of ethics as the hospital professional staff. All information acquired through your hospital service must remain confidential.
